Fonts - Experimenting

When we changed our opening sequence we also had to change our font that we chose and the name of the film so it would fit in with a different genre. We wanted to create a clever/intelligent however creepy effect so we did limit ourselves alot! It was hard to find something that we wanted however, we downloaded a few fonts as we didnt want to use a font already on the computer, and tried them out to see how they would look and how the font could help relate to our opening sequence. On the website it was extremely helpful as it had categorized different fonts in to themes so we could quickly browse through the themes. We picked out three main fonts and then cut them down to just one. We used a website called 'dafont'.

'Face your fears'

 This was our first font that we had found, we liked this as it gave a realistic effect and it looked very 'school' like as it could either look like paint or it could look like smears of blood which relates to our genre. 




'All Over Again'




This was the second font we found, again we really liked this font as it looked like someone scribbled it in a rush, like a child had at school, this relates to the setting and location of the opening sequence. 




'Quid Pro Quo'

This was the last font we found, we liked this font as again it looked like handwriting, however, we felt that this font was too neat for the selected genre of our film.










We decided to choose the second font 'All over again' as it was exactly what we wanted as we felt that it relates to the genre of the film and the location of the film well. 

Certificate 15

We decided that the age certificate for our film overall would be a 15. We thought that this would be a suitable age as in the rest of the film we would plan to have scenes of violence and horror. However, the violence and horror wouldn't be too much. Also within our film we will be having frequent use of strong language, this would not be acceptable in a certificate of a 12. We wanted our film to appeal to a mainstream audience, as if we put the certificate at 18 then we wouldnt get any teenagers going to see the film, and mainly teenagers are the people consuming films and going to the cinema. We felt that if it was a 15 then it appeals to our target audience, and it would be suitable for the age of 15 and above.

Evaluation activity 7 Jamie Hutton

Through are course of constructing are task, i feel that as a group we each have progressed using the different filming techniques. With the prelim we got to use and acknowledge a different variety of cinematography that helped us with our filming. More shots and camera movements were focused on to give a huge effect within our film. Our prelim was unprofessional as the camera was shaky but towards our film improvement has been made. Louise focused on editing throughout the whole task including the prelim. She eventually got to understand how to use editing to play effect on what type of genre the film is which worked very well within our task. As a group we followed the codes and conventions in our film to the selected genre; psychological horror.

We used the Mise-en-scene within our opening sequence more effectively than within our prelim, huge improvement was made as the use of lighting helped create the mood and atmosphere and could relate to the genre which would show the audience the representation of the film to be a horror. Barley any props were used within our prelim to give an understanding of what is going on where as in our opening sequence we used a number of props such as the phone, clock to show the time that she is there late etc.

In our prelim this is one shot we used using shot reverse shot showing a discussion between two characters. this is a very simple piece use of cinematography to do which was good for our prelim.

However after knowing and understanding how different types of shots are used to create effect for the viewers we used a panning shot in our opening sequence to illustrate the setting and character.

Title Ideas - Yharnna Dior Joseph

Our film Is a pychological thriller with plenty scary Elements; the plot will revolve around a teacher  who is working past school hours to mark books, alone in her office where she becomes increasingly fustrated and agitated. Since our film will be of a scary nature our selected title could also convey a frightening message. However I believe that It would be best to have a simple title which is not so obvious , as to what to storyline plot is but will have the ability to  allur the audience into watching the film . A title which is short but eye-catching which can be interepreted in several ways to perplex and enage the reader would be ideal for our film.  


Title Ideas we generated are as follows :


Cold Blood:  This title evokes a sinister feel to the film almost instantly , As an audience we become aware of the genre of the film that it may be rather gruesome and frightening , which most likely suggests that it may be a thriller/horror. However although this title covey's the correct mood for film , it could also be said that it tells too much , and lacks sophistication in the sense that we already know that there will be blood present , before we watch the film.

Silent witness : This title was generated for the purpose of our old story line plot, we believed that it worked exceptionally well with the storyline plot we previously had, for the main reason that our charcter was a witness to a murder , but was silent in the sense that she feared writing  statement .However we decided to change our story;ine plot and this title no longer correlated with our plot, in addition to this after research we discovered that this title was the name of a british drama.

Out of time:  This title is again rather obvious and reveals the story line plot too early to the audience.

Overtime : This is our final title that we have decoded to use for our final opeing sequence . As a group we belive that it is appropirate because it firstly does not disclose too muh about our storyline or plot to reader but does however leave open interpretations causing the audience's imagination to wonder. This title can be interpreted in two ways , which both relate to our plot imensely one of which is that she is overtime in terms of her life , as it's more or less so over, she has lived her maximum years of life and it now out of time. And the most obvious idea that she is working overtime in her Job.

Evaluation Activity 7-By Yharnna Joseph

Looking back at our original Preliminary task , I believe that as a group we have made  Gradual improvement , in terms of our ability to film and edit.
I believe that when comparing our final opeining sequence to our Preliminary task , the main difference that becomes more or less so instantly recognisable is the quality of filming by the camera man ( Louise Jarvis). In our Preliminary task the camera is shakey and at times unbalanced , which creates an unprofessional feel to the footage. The reasoning for the shakey filming was that we used our tripod incorrectly throughout the Preliminary task , however to prevent this in our final opening sequence we ensured that we used our tripod correctly and efficiently.
I also believe that the effect of non-digetic music throughout the course of our final opening sequence had an immense affect on the sequence, for instance if we had composed a non-digetic instrumental for our Preliminary task , it would have been a lot more eye-catching for the audience .

The image to the left displays two screen grabs from our premilminary task and our opening sequence merged together , to display Long shots which are presented throughout both films .A Long shot generally Displays the image as approximately "life" size.
It corresponds to the real distance between the actual audience and the screen itself . These screen shots include the full shot which shows the entire  body of both charcters, with the head near the top of the frame and the feet near the bottom. While the focus is on characters, plenty of background detail still emerges: as the long shot also establishes the scenerey and setting, in both screen shots we can see the corridor and hallways.
However when comparing the two although we show great improvement in our opening sequence , it appears that we used as many shot angles such as shot reverse shot , this is most likely due to the plot of our opening sequence , that there wasn't exactly two charcters contronted directly for example in our premilminary task we used shot reverse shot and the 180 rule to create the effect of a conversational style.
 In our premilminary task there was also plenty echoing throughout the filming , to prevent this we ensured our filming location was completely empty and using more Editing on our Final sequence.

Speechbubbles and notes to convey how we attracted our audience , throughout
the course of our Opening sequence.

Our target audience for our film is between the ages of 18-30 years. We chose this specific genre which will take an interest from our target audience as the conventions of this genre helps gain an interest of an older audience.


The main character who plays the role of a teacher staying late in the office, can relate to the audience as she is a young female she can relate to her audience.
